If you thought the voice in the opening credits of HBO's The Undoing sounded familiar, there's a reason for that — the show's theme, a cover of "Dream a Little Dream of Me" was performed by the star herself, Nicole Kidman.
Moulin Rouge! fans may have caught onto Kidman's voice in the theme track a little earlier than everyone else, though, despite the actress doing her own singing in the 2001 Baz Lurhmann film, she had to be convinced to sing the title sequence for her latest show.
In a behind-the-scenes clip from HBO, Kidman says The Undoing director Susanne Bier had called her while shooting the show, pitching the idea of having her sing the song.
"And I was like, 'absolutely not,'" Kidman recalled. "And then she said, 'you have to.' And then I went, 'okay.'"
Kidman also told ET that she was in lockdown due to the coronavirus when she got Bier's request, and despite not being able to go out to a studio, she was able to make things work, thanks to musician husband Keith Urban, who had a studio installed in their home in Sydney.
"I was like, 'Umm, no. Absolutely not. We’re in lockdown and I can’t get to a studio,'" she said. "And then I was like, 'Well, I actually can because we have one in our house, downstairs. So then I went down one afternoon and recorded it and sent it to her and thought it was gonna get rejected, but she ended up using it."
